Sanral progressing two Eastern Cape road projects
Two major infrastructure projects being undertaken by the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral), in the Buffalo City metropolitan municipality, in the Eastern Cape, are progressing. Construction of the N2 from the Green river to the Buffalo river is 50% complete but two months behind schedule, while construction of the Breidbach interchange is about 40% complete and on schedule. This was noted by Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane this week after he undertook a working visit to the project sites. “The development of a world-class roads network that connects each of the Eastern Cape’s towns to the next, [as well as] local and district municipalities to one another, augmented with the dual development of trade corridors, comprising of a multi-modal transport system, from key economic hubs across the province, markets within the province and nationally, as well as export hubs, is critical,” he said.

IATA financial conference to focus on airline resilience, post-Covid
The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the global representative body for the airline industry, has announced that its 2022 World Financial Symposium (WFS) will be focused on “reshaping airline resilience”. The WFS will take place next month in Doha, Qatar, and will be hosted by Qatar Airways. The global airline industry recorded total losses of $180-billion during 2020-2021. The Covid-19 pandemic was the biggest shock ever suffered by the commercial aviation sector. But now, with travel barriers being dismantled in most parts of the world, total losses this year are expected to be massively less, at $9.7-billion. Profitability could return to the sector next year. Pre-Covod-19 air traffic levels should be reached in 2024.
