The board of the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) has instructed Sanral management to readvertise and award the R17.47-billion in tenders the board cancelled earlier in May, citing “material irregularities”, within the next four months. Speaking at a media conference in Centurion on Monday, Sanral board chairperson Themba Mhambi added that the board would recruit an independent public institution with infrastructure expertise to assist with the process to advertise and adjudicate the tenders, and to make a recommendation to the board on the winning bidders.
Consortium signs agreement for rail project in Ghana
South African railway entity the Thelo DB consortium will be signing a framework agreement for the transformational Western Railway Line project with the government of Ghana on July 25. Rail transport consortium Gibela has unveiled the one-hundredth X’trapolis Mega commuter train it is building for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa. In 2013 Gibela signed a R53-billion contract to supply PRASA with 600 six-car trains for its Metrorail service. The trains are manufactured at Gibela’s Dunnotar facility, in Nigel, in Ekurhuleni. Jet fuel supply is stable despite refinery closure, says ACSA
Despite the temporary shutdown at the key Natref refinery, Airports Company SA (ACSA) says jet fuel supplies at all its airports remain stable and it is continuing to meet airline demands. Fin24 reported on Sunday that Sasol – South Africa’s largest fuel producer – declared force majeure on the supply of petroleum products due to delays in deliveries of crude oil to its Natref refinery, leaving just a fraction of the country’s fuel-production capacity still operational. Sasol Oil will, therefore, not be in a position to fully meet its supply commitments from July 2022.
