E-toll decision is imminent, says Mbalula

Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula said the final pronouncement on the funding model of e-tolls is imminent. Mbalula tabled his budget vote for the Department of Transport in Parliament on Wednesday afternoon. This comes amid uncertainty around South African National Roads Agency Limited electronic tolling system to pay for the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project, which has been met with public resistance. Mbalula said he was working with Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana to help Cabinet arrive at a final determination on the funding of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project. He said that a decision on the matter was "imminent", although it has taken a long time.

Grindrod Shipping to sell tanker for $30m

JSE- and Nasdaq-listed global maritime transportation services company Grindrod Shipping has entered into a contract to sell its 2016-built medium-range product tanker Matuku for $30-million. Grindrod Shipping predominantly owns and operates a diversified fleet of owned and long-term and short-term chartered-in drybulk vessels. The drybulk business, which operates under the brand Island View Shipping (IVS) includes a core fleet of 15 handysize drybulk carriers and 16 supramax/ultramax drybulk carriers.

Sanral cancels R17.5bn in tenders, citing ‘material irregularities’

The board of the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) has cancelled tenders to the value of R17.47-billion, citing “material irregularities”. The tenders which the Sanral board did not approve are the Mtentu Bridge Wild Coast project, on the N2, valued at R3.4-billion; the rehabilitation of the R56 Matatiele, in the Eastern Cape, at R1-billion; the N3 Ashburton interchange, in KwaZulu-Natal, at R1.8-billion; and improvements to the EB Cloete interchange (N2 and N3 connection point in KwaZulu-Natal), at R4.3-billion.
