MSC buys Bollore’s African logistics unit for €5.7bn
MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co agreed to buy the African transport and logistics business of Bollore SA for €5.7-billion ($6.3-billion) including debt. Geneva-based MSC, the world’s largest container line, has had exclusivity to make a firm offer for the unit since December. The deal is expected to to be completed by March 2023 after approvals and other conditions are met, according to a statement.

The unexpected recent Covid-19-related lockdown in Shanghai, China, coupled with the war in Ukraine and lasting Covid-19 impacts in various other regions of the world, is exacerbating what is an already constrained and disrupted global supply chain, says pump manufacturer Grundfos Africa. Supply chain director Sanett Nel tells Engineering News & Mining Weekly that raw materials supplied out of Ukraine and Russia that are used to produce products in China and Europe for imports into Africa, are experiencing supply shortages and price increases.
ST Energies invests in Matola supply chain to ease energy constraints in South Africa
Energy firm ST Energies has invested into a supply and storage contract with the Matola region, in Mozambique, to embed diverse energy supply chains in South Africa, supporting existing regional supply chains to help South Africa mitigate its over-reliance on domestic demand from the Port of Durban. The company initiated and concluded negotiations for this supply and storage contract, ensuring there is a sustainable supply of fuel critical to the country and the local energy sector.
Transnet moves to sell 16 rail slots to private operators
State-owned freight logistics group Transnet has officially launched the much-anticipated bidding process for 16 rail slots, which will be sold to third-party operators for a period of two years on a take-or-pay basis. A bid submission date of May 31 has been set and Transnet expects to announce winning bidders on June 30.

The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) says it will invest more than R76-million in seven new contracts to benefit local communities that live around the N2 Wild Coast Road Project in the Eastern Cape. The seven new subcontracting tenders that will be awarded shortly include a bush clearing project east and west of Mzimvubu river; repairs to the R61 between Ndwalane and Ntafufu roads; repairs to the main roads through Lusikisiki; repairs to the R61 between Lusikisiki and Zalu road; repairs to the R61 between Bukazi and Flagstaff; as well as repairs to the Flagstaff town bypass and road to Holy Cross.
