Iata reports improved commercial aviation safety last year
The International Air Transport Association (Iata) has announced that the safety performance of the world’s commercial airline industry had improved strongly in several areas last year, in comparison to 2020. Iata is the representative body for the global airline industry and it released the its aviation safety statistics for 2021 on Wednesday. The total number of accidents, the all-accident rate and the number of fatalities last year were all lower than in 2020. Iata-member airlines, who must be Iata Operational Safety Audit- (Iosa-)certified, and non-Iata airlines that had undergone Iosa certification, did not suffer a single fatal accident last year. RFA studying AARTO judgment, says amendments not focused on changing driver behaviour
Industry association the Road Freight Association (RFA) says the North Gauteng High Court’s judgment that the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Amendment Act (Act 4 of 2019) is unconstitutional is unsurprising because there had been many significant changes made to the original Act (46 of 1998), which had passed Constitutional scrutiny. "The RFA has been very clear and outspoken about the flaws that the association identified in AARTO that, in our view, were predicated on revenue generation and not on changing driver behaviour and vehicle maintenance to ensure safer roads," says RFA CEO Gavin Kelly.
